New Staff: Kate Kiernat, Coordinator of Apartment Services. Kate comes to us from main campus, having previously worked with the dormitory residents.
(Dee Donovan & Kristi Hosea – Cops Program and Events) A car seat safety program is offered on February 13th. This program includes information on the proper use of child safety seats. One car seat will be raffled to residents present during the program. More information on the program is in the February newsletter.
(Jeff Kirkwood –Environmental Safety Specialist) Fire and Safety inspections will begin in January. These inspections will take place twice a year. A sample inspection form was attached to the January newsletter.
(Troy Rother) The entrance at Calvin Moore is scheduled for closure. Official site improper traffic procedures (turning against traffic) and concerns for pedestrian safety as among the reasons for the decision. The entrance will not be completely sealed – cars will be allowed to turn right to and from University Drive. Pedestrians will not be able to cross University Drive at the area. Plans include the construction of a sidewalk for students walking to campus. Pedestrians will be directed to the traffic light at College Ave for crossing University Drive.
Mike Leo (Maintenance) Residents have been improperly disposing of large furniture and trash. Large furniture and trash should not be placed next to the dumpsters, but should be hauled away to a charity organization or otherwise disposed of properly. How to dispose of large trash depends on the items. Residents will large trash to throw away should contact the maintenance office if they have any questions.
Lamiya Memorial Park Design: We have an ‘almost’ final design for the park. Curtis Russel from the Physical Plant drew the design. There is a meeting Feb 6 to determine funding sources. The bid was awarded for the proposed playground adjacent to the proposed site for the Lamiya Memorial Park.

Residents had many questions concerning the proposed closure of Calvin Moore, including the logistics of driving/walking on and off the University Apartments area.
Road repair on Ken. Street delayed due to proposed demolition of Front Street Apartments.
UA Police Officers suggested a class on safely crossing streets for the residents
