UACC GENERAL MEETING (06/10/08) Minutes:

 

Preamble:

Srirama gave a welcome and introduced board members to the residents, and staff.

 

NEW BUSINESS and UPDATES:

 

Constitution revisions:

By UACC President

Srirama presented the proposed constitution and bylaws revisions developed by the UACC leaders.  The changes were recommended by the Student Activity office. The revision included the UACC election and disciplinary processes.

The election revisions were discussed and approved by a majority vote of the residents that were present.

The process of impeachment and removal was also discussed and residents approved the revisions by a majority vote of the residents that were present.

A suggestion was made by residents for provisions to conduct elections online to achieve higher participation and fairness. It was decided that the issue would be discussed during later meeting upon gathering more information on online voting systems and to await a decision if spouses are allow to vote.

 

Lab printer toner status:

Srirama gave an update regarding the toner in the computer lab. It appears the toner is being abused by overprinting.  Suggested to solve the issue were encouraged. Kate Kiernat informed resident that the cost over the past five months exceeded $1600 which is higher than the budget allotted for an entire year.

Suggestions by residents and staff included:

1. Use of a card to swipe. Incorporate an account number assigned to each individual apartment.

2. Limit the number of copies per house hold, (there were discussion regarding the number of copies if residents have spouses and the availability of access for family members).

3. Create an online access by login of the computers for printing,

4. Limit the use of computer to kids or limit the use to children under 13 with Parent supervision.

Kate will discuss the issue with Information Technology Services and update via listserv or forth coming meeting.

 

UA community garden plot:

Wandalyn gave a report on the community garden plot.  She advised due to a lack of participation; therefore the UACC leaders made a recommendation to discontinue the garden.  If the residents agree the maintenance crew will mow and clear the garden. By a majority vote the residents agreed to discontinue the garden and have it mowed.

UA senate position discussion:

Srirama shared a resident concern to hold the UACC senator accountable to represent UA residents.

The table was open for discussion. Wandalyn advised she and Paul Obiazi spoke to Jennifer Fountain, the advisor for the Student Government Association who stated the expectation of the SGA is the senator would be in constant touch with residents to be able to voice their concerns to the SGA.

Comments by residents included:

-     The UACC senator should be accountable to the residents

-     His/her position should be included in to UACC Constitution.

-       If the senator did not fulfill his/her role he/she should be recommended for removal.

-       Does University Apartments or UACC have the authority to remove the senator since his/her office is part of SGA?

-       Senator should attend either the general or leaders meeting to learn the concerns of the residents.

Mike Krenz said that residence halls also have a senator position and RHA made provisions with SGA to make the position accountable to the residence halls by including a statement in the SGA constitution.  Wandalyn suggested perhaps UA resident could possibly use the RHA model as an example.
