UACC GENERAL MEETING (05/07/08) Minutes:
Preamble:
By President Srirama Krishna
Reddy
Srirama began the meeting with
a welcome and allowed board members and the ResLife staff to introduce
themselves.
List serve Update
By VP of Information Technology
Sam suggested the voice of residentŐs are heard from the List serve messages and advised action is being taken to address the issues voiced. The residents were encouraged not to unsubscribe from the list rather find a way to sort their emails automatically into dedicated folders - an approach which the UACC Leaders are working on. In response, the residents asked if the UACC List serve could be designed in such a way that the reply by default goes to the sender and not to the entire group. These are options the board will be reviewed and considered as we select an appropriate option that will work for University Apartment (UA) residents.
UACC Board Elections for three
vacant positions
By the UACC President
Srirama initiated the process by allowing candidates running for the positions of VP, VP of Publicity and VP of Finance to state their candidacy and tell why each of them is interested in serving on the board. The two candidates running for VP were Yolanda Jordan and Lakshmi Kakani; there was only one candidate for the other two positions. The newly elected UACC board members for 2008-2008 elected at May 7th general meeting include.
Lakshmi Kakani, VP, Yongxia CAI,
VP of Finance and Miguel Zarate, VP of Publicity. The remaining officers elected previously in April 2007
include Srirama Kris Reddy, President, Sam Jacobs, VP of Information Technology
and Banishes Chattered, VP of Programs.
Bike pickup
By Paul Obiazi
Paul stated transportation workers
recently completed the bicycle clean up process. Notes/mails were sent prior to
the start of the project and the project included UA.
On call Job
By Wandalyn Mclean
Wandalyn advised on call jobs available
for students who are searching for work and encourage residents to try the
system. More information is
available on jobsforaggies.com.
Other Issues
By a resident
Resident Maria raised the issue
about "meeting awareness" as well as suggested reform is needed in our
voting system. Other suggestions included the need for online voting and circulation
of information about the candidateŐs prior to the election such as photos and views
on how they will serve the community. These views were supported by other
residents.
By a resident
Resident Anand wanted the
status of a previous discussion about UA reducing the rent for the summer months.
Kate Kiernat advised the "special offer" was for applicants who only rent
during the summer period. To clarify the issue she mentioned if these same applicants
decide to extend their lease beyond the summer period they will then be asked
to pay security deposit like other residents.
By Ron Sasse
Mr. Sasse discussed the
upcoming apartment construction project and encouraged residents to get
involved in the upcoming Charette meetings. A sign up sheet was circulated for
residents interested in attending.
By the UACC VP
Lakhsmi suggested that the pest
control treatments do not seem to be working. She suggested we invite the
people in charge (pest control) for a discussion/ training program.
By a resident
Anand raised the issue concerning
dumpster and raccoons and also the lighting around Y1 and C1 rows.
By Mike Krenz
University
Apartments staff members have spoken with the Crime Prevention Officers on this
issue. Lighting in this area is
sufficient and meets university standards. If too much light is put in one area, very light and very
dark areas are formed on campus which creates new problems. Crime Prevention Officers will conduct
another night time walk through the area.
