Mr. Smith addressed the following issues:

1- The New Maintenance Center

The construction is scheduled to be completed in June 2004 and would replace the present maintenance building (which was built in1947).

2- On-line e-pay system

The dormitories department is trying to facilitate the payment method for the residents. The electronic payment system is expected to be operative soon next year.

3- Emergency plans:

Emergency plan, in general, is a part of the university code (including the dormitories).

3-a-Phone notification system

The automatic voice system could simultaneously notify up to 150 residents (at each run) of any emergency concerns (e.g. Tornado etc).

3-b-Emergency supplies

Emergency supplies have been purchased in case of major electricity black out for the residents. (e.g. torches etc)

3-c- Building monitors

It was proposed that a monitor among the residents of each building be assigned, who can guide the residents in case of emergency

4- New Laundries and Driers

New laundries and driers are to be installed, which are modern and have higher capacity.

5- 2004 Rent Increase

It is expected that the rents increase by %8 or ($25-$35 per month) starting sep. 04.

Mr. Smith provided an itemized list of the annual expenses of 2001, 2003 and 2004, which indicated an increase of the expenses, mainly due to the construction of the new maintenance building, razing the present building and re-roofing the Hensel apartments. Mr. Smith stated that the authorities in charge are price conscience when it comes to planning for the UA, and they consider and are aware of the students’ (financial) status.

Sandeep explained the activities of the UACC, such as the International Buffet and the bowling event at MSC.

Thanks to efforts of the organizers and Maria in particular, there was a good turnout at the International Buffet of UA and it sounded to be a successful experience.

It was also suggested that all the on the bulletin board have a starting and an expiration date so that the old advertisements could be removed from the usually-crowded (often-shabby) boards.
