University Apartments Residence Meeting held on November 18th, 2004.

Meeting minute

The following issues have been discussed during the meeting:

1.      Rahul Ribeiro, President UACC announced the new UACC area representatives: Ramesh Sagili and Sudya Arlikatti of Ball St, Narendra Das of Avenue A. Unmil Karadkar has stepped down as Area Representative of Front St. so we are looking for a new area rep. for Front St. __________________ 2.      Rahul announced that the task force that is investigating the July 31 fire at apartment U1J and structural, communication and maintenance issues at University apartments was to submit it’s final report to President Gates by November 15, 2004 but has asked for an extension because of the large amount of work remaining. The new deadline for submitting the report is December 02, 2004.

3. The prospective program coordinator, Wandalyn Shanklin gave a short presentation and answered questions from residents. __________________

4.      The Fire department of college station has instructed that new address system of university apartment should be made effective from January 1, 2005. The old address of each apartment will be valid and effective for one more year (valid in 2005). The apartment office will be given the notice again on this issue. The new addresses are available at the apt. office.

 5.      The maintenance office will be moving to the new maintenance building.
__________________

6.      The maintenance schedule is to be put up on the bulletin boards near the Avanue A and Hansel apartment area, and also in the community center.

7.      The department of resident life is now discussing with COX to try and get the International channel back.
__________________

 8.      Because of safety considerations, the crossing across University drive from the university to Calvin Moore St. will be closed and a sidewalk along University drive to the nearest traffic signals on either side of the crossing will be built. Side walks from different parts of University Apts. premises to these traffic signals will be constructed to reduce the walking distance. Everybody will be required to walk to the traffic signals along University drive and then cross the road to campus.

 9.      Police officer Donovan offered to arrange (for free) for UA residents to attend the games of TAMU (except football): soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, etc. You need to give feedback so that they know if you want to attend the game and they can organize. 10.  Utility rates and KWH usage can be obtained for individual apts. at the business office in the community center.
__________________

11.  Vice President of External Programs, International Student Association spoke about his willingness to organize activities for UA residents to participate.

12.  Other general issues of UA were also discussed in the meeting

The office of resident life has the liberty to “encourage” the residents to have more active and constructive roles in the UA community.
